Dr. Shaw’s orientation to the Wholistic paradigm began in college, with studies of Drama and World Religions at Syracuse University, Clinical Nutrition at Cornell (Honors graduate), and becoming a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor. Completing Medical School at SUNY Buffalo, and Psychiatric Residency at the University of Rochester, she studied multiple forms of psychotherapy including Jungian, Psychodynamic, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, Humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioral, as well as completing a Fellowship in Family and Marriage Therapy. She also had the privilege of studying two original wholistic models with their originators: the Biopsychosocial Model, and Psychoneuroimmunology. Dr. Shaw has taught extensively to Medical and Naturopathic students, Residents in Psychiatry, and other Medical/Mental Health professionals. She has lectured on Neurotransmitter Analysis and Psychoneuroimmunology, including at the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting.

Dr. Shaw has continued independent studies and training in non-conventional treatment modalities. These have include therapies in Orthomolecular Psychiatry, Medical and Naturopathic Nutrition, Toxicity/Detoxification, Yoga-Breathe-Movement, Non-Violent Communication, Mental Imagery, Endocrinology, Functional Medicine, Inflammatory Disease, Herbs and Nutrients, Neural Therapy, Applied Kinesiology, Neurotransmitter Analysis, and Eye Movement Stress Release. She blends this information with conventional medical approaches to suit the needs of each individual. Assessment is indepth and can include very specific endocrine, neurotransmitter, biofeedback, genetic and nutritional testing, as well as a detailed evaluation of potentially contributing lifestyle, psychological, medical, emotional, social, toxic and even spiritual factors.

Dr. Shaw considers herself to be a guide and collaborator, with the ultimate goal of assisting those with whom she works to develop self-awareness, and become a self-director, in their health and wellness.
