I truly enjoy my work as periodontist; and most of all, I love working with my patients, encouraging them to take an active role in their dental treatment, and helping them improve their overall oral health. As a Periodontist, I understand that many of my patients may come to me feeling apprehensive about their treatment. It is my goal to make my patients feel comfortable, while keeping them well informed about their periodontal health, and answering any questions that they may have along the way.
My extensive dental education and service in the military has given me a solid foundation in dentistry and periodontology. It is because of my education and life experiences that I am able to provide my patients with a higher level of dental care. I am able to answer my patient's questions and provide them with solutions that are unique to their individual needs and current with industry standards. A quality education and a commitment to continuing education provide me with the skills necessary to help my patients achieve a healthy, beautiful smile.
I am originally from Seattle, Washington and I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. I then attended Howard University's College of Dentistry in Washington, DC. After graduating, I was commissioned to serve in the U.S. Army. In the Army, I completed Ft. Benning's Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) within my first year of service.
I was soon stationed in South Korea as the Chief of Restorative Dentistry. I remained in South Korea for one year, and then returned to Washington, DC where I worked as the Assistant Officer in Charge at Ft. Myer in Virginia. Following that, I volunteered to serve in the Kosovo Humanitarian effort of 2002. I received my three-year periodontics certificate at Ft. Benning Eisenhower Hospital in conjunction with the Medical College of Georgia's Graduate Oral Biology program. My final duty station was as Chief of the Periodontics Dept. at the Heidelberg Hospital in Heidelberg Germany. It is now an honor to be practicing dentistry in Silver Spring, Maryland, and the surrounding communities.
Continuing Education is just as important as having a traditional dental education. The treatments and techniques used in dentistry are constantly changing, and it's important to me that I stay up-to-date so that I can offer my patients the most advanced treatment options. I am a board certified member and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, which provides me with endless opportunities for continuing education. I have done extensive research in various areas of dentistry, and in 2006, I was honored to receive the Army's Joseph Bernier Award and the Southern Academy of Periodontology's "Best Clinical Research" award for my research in a skin graft derivative associated with bone graft healing.
A Periodontist has the opportunity to become Board Certified by making significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty. This requires a comprehensive written qualifying and oral examination covering all phases of periodontal disease and its treatment, including dental implants. This coveted international distinction is associated with only a fraction of periodontists worldwide.

A Life full of Happy Smiles
After a total of eleven years of honorably and faithfully serving in the United States Army, I began pursing my dream of owning my own private practice, and I chose to return to Washington, DC with my family. I feel fortunate to have the wonderful support of my family and my community, and I look forward to helping you achieve your dental health goals.
Outside of the practice, I love sports, having played and coached soccer for over 35 years. I have participated in various sports related programs associated with civilian and military communities. I love to travel with my family, and spending time with relatives and friends locally and abroad. My wife, who also is in the healthcare field, also works in the Washington, DC area. I look forward to being an active part of my community and sharing my expertise in the field of dentistry.
