Dr. Andrew Heyman believes in the possibility of transformation. From simple lifestyle changes to complex treatment planning, the ultimate goal is a beautiful life.
Dr. Heyman’s journey in the field of integrative medicine began over 20 years ago as a certified shiatsu practitioner. He practiced professionally for several years and went on to receive a Masters in Health Services Administration at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Upon graduation, he became the administrator for the University of Michigan Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Center where he was directly involved in the planning and development of their Integrative Medicine Clinic. Following that, Andrew received his doctor of medicine and became the first physician to complete an integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan.
In addition to his formal training in family and integrative medicine, Dr. Heyman’s diverse clinical interests include: Functional Nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Medical Acupuncture, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Medical Aesthetics. This broad range of therapies allows him to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for both the acute and long-term health goals of his patients. Dr. Heyman’s primary clinical location is at the Virginia Center for Health and Wellness, which is located in the rolling hills of the Virginia countryside.
When Dr. Heyman is not practicing medicine, he utilizes his administrative and business background to educate health care professionals and consults for companies around the world on wellness programming. He is the Medical Director for Lifetime Fitness, the Team Physician for Corvette Racing and the President of Integrative Health Resources, whose clients include: Airborne, Thorne Research, and Pfizer. Dr. Heyman is academically active and retains a clinical appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan and is the National Clinical Chair for the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine. He is very involved in educating medical students, residents, fellows and physicians currently in practice on most aspects of integrative medicine.
Because of his vast knowledge in the field of integrative medicine, Dr. Heyman has been invited to speak internationally on topics including: cardiometabolic disease, bio-identical hormone replacement, acupuncture and additional health-related topics. He is the Section Editor for Integrative Medicine in the Journal of Men’s Health with a research focus on cardiometabolic disease and stress abnormalities. Dr. Heyman has published numerous academic articles, book chapters and additional print material for the public. He has been fortunate to work with some of the most prestigious wellness companies and academic institutions in the country and is committed to educating his patients, colleagues and the public in all aspects of health and wellness.
